Hey Natali! I also focused my identifying local opportunities in Gainesville! I didn’t realize how much trouble the Oaks mall was in! That is absolutely wild to me how much retail has shifted, due to the rise in popularity of online shopping. Gainesville in general seems as though it is going to be going through a lot of changes in the next few years according to my research and your research alone. It will be interesting to see how big of a shift in the community these cause.
ReplyDeleteWow! I really enjoyed the fact that you focused mainly on things showing that they were falling out of favor, getting to know what doesn't work is a good step to take when trying to identify opportunities. I also found it interesting how many examples you were able to find where a retail store found it difficult to adjust to the times, particularly in the Oak's Mall story.
ReplyDeleteNatali,
ReplyDeleteI was impressed that you found three different examples of stores closing and that you were able to identify different problems that each of these created or stemmed from.
Also, I can see why you would choose the article about mosquitoes, as they are a tremendous problem in Florida.
I found an opportunity containing hurricane season, as well. The article I read focused on the National Hurricane Center's readiness and methods of communicating with people about alerts and warnings. Your opportunity, in addition to mine, illustrates that more people are occupied with hurricane season than meets the eye.
